William Calhoun Baggs was a prominent Florida journalist and the editor of The Miami News in the mid 1950s until the late 1960s.

Baggs was an early pioneer who advocated for the African American Civil Rights Movement, environmental causes and against America’s involvement in the Vietnam War.

Baggs was instrumental in the protection of the southern section of Key Biscayne and helped preserve the beautiful and irreplaceable land for future generations.
